Who is Carlos Mozo?
Like most projects the hardest part is just getting it going and started. I’ve wanted to start a blog for a long time and have had many people tell me that I need to share my stories.
I lived in 3 different countries before moving to the United States at the age of 14. My father is Filipino and grew up in the outskirts of Manila in the Philippines. His youth was one of poverty and struggle. He served in the US Navy for 30 years. My mother was from Philadelphia. She had an upper class upbringing with a family lineage that traces back to a signature on the Declaration of Independence. My parents were from different classes and worlds. I am the youngest of four boys. In my youth I was a model. I was the face for a clothing company in Japan and modeled for brands like Rebook, Kodak, Benetton, Rodeo, Adidas and a few store catalogs. I was into skateboarding, BMX bikes and making stuff with boxes, wood and duct tape. At the age of 14 I learned how to weld and by 17 I was a certified welder and working in a factory. I had also picked up the art of photography from my brother and was photographing weddings, bands, skating and senior pictures in high school. In my early to mid 20’s I played guitar in a band with my brother and worked in a custom welding shop. I build anything from custom boat, car and motorcycle trailers to classified builds for the Navy Seals. I stepped away from welding to run heavy equipment (excavator, backhoe, dozers, loaders and rollers). When I got bored with that I moved onto building custom homes. After working on about 60 custom homes, I took a nail gun to the eye. That changed my perspective on life. Once I got my eyesight back, 6 months later I enrolled in photography school in California. After photography school I came back to Hawaii and started my Photography business. In the last 7 years I have photographed the south pacific, west coast, mid west, east coast and under the sea. I have been able to photograph my favorite bands and surf breaks. I’ve also moonlighted in other jobs and have learned mechanics. My personal life could be described as a dramatic comedy. I’ve had some great relationships and even some rotten marriages. I have more kids then you know and somehow through the chaos have found an Angel sympathetic enough to take me under her wings. I’ve had battles with inner demons and addictions and now have been sober for seven years. I’ve lived through the loss of my Father, Brother and a best friend.
So that is in short and without much detail the outline of my life. This blog will have everything from personal stories and experiences to photography and art projects. Through photography I have been able to meet and work with some amazing people, artist and musicians. On this blog I will be sharing about them as well. So check back often and if you have any questions or suggestions, please feel free to message me.
